The work environment is typically air-conditioned, well paid, but noisy.<\/p>\n<p>There are several specializations within the field of heavy equipment mechanics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mobile heavy equipment mechanics<\/strong> specialize in machinery used in the construction industry. These mechanics work for equipment rental companies or construction companies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Agricultural heavy equipment mechanics<\/strong> specialize in repairing tractors and harvesters. These jobs are more common in rural areas and involve a lot of travel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Railcar mechanics<\/strong> specialize in the transportation industry but specifically to repair and maintain train or subway cars.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heavy-duty truck mechanics<\/strong> specialize in the transportation industry and repair semi-trucks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is the salary of a heavy equipment mechanic?<\/h2>\n<p>According to data from the Government of Quebec and Randstad Canada, the hourly wage for heavy equipment mechanics ranges from $60,000 to $75,000. With more specific certifications and qualifications, their salary can rise to $100,000. Of course, these salary ranges are averages and depend greatly on the type of company you may be employed in, your experience, and your certifications.<\/p>\n<p>New equipment mechanics earn an average hourly wage of <strong>$22, <\/strong>according to the provincial government. Randstad indicates a higher average, with a typical hourly wage of <strong>$28<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Where can you learn to become a heavy equipment mechanic?<\/h2>\n<p>Heavy equipment mechanic training programs are normally two-year vocational diplomas (DEP).
